The Douay-Rheims Bible is an English translation from the Latin Vulgate by Catholic scholars at the English College in Douai, France. Gregory Martin led the translation under Cardinal William Allen’s sponsorship, with the New Testament published in 1582 and the Old Testament in 1609. The 1749-1752 revision by Richard Challoner aimed to improve readability and was first published in America in 1790 by Mathew Carey of Philadelphia. It influenced later versions, including the prominent Douay-Rheims American Edition of 1899. DRB Bible is in public domain.
